If there is no cover and the mounting screws are visible proceed to step 2.

Removing a kwikset door lock.

You may feel the tool click inside the lock. Ensure your door cannot close on its own or that you have another way to enter you home. Open the door so that you have access to front and back of the door you are removing the kwikset door knob from. Remove the current key.

The screws secure the knobs together to the door. To remove the entire door knob assembly remove the knob s inside faceplate pull out both sides of the knob and take out the latch plate. Now you are ready to being removing the external side of the door knob or the opposing side from the one you ve already worked on. Insert the key that currently operates your lock.

Rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise. Find secure and reliable locks that will last when you replace your broken locks with kwikset s durable hardware. Insert the smartkey tool fully and firmly into the smartkey hole. Remove the smarkey tool.

If you have ever came to a locks that had no screws no set screw and no de. Then pry off the lever and inside cover to access the mounting screws. To remove a kwikset door knob use a paperclip to press the locking pin that holds the knob and the stem together and pull the knob out. Loosen and remove the two mounting screws that secure the interior lock to the mounting plate using the appropriate type of screwdriver.

Remove a kwikset knob lock set with no screws and no detent the secret catch. Remove the two screws on the inside door knob faceplate using a phillips head screwdriver. Remove the pin that holds the thumb lever in place with an appropriately sized allen wrench. Prop open the door to stabilize it during deadbolt removal.

Remove the doorknob from the door by either engaging the hidden latch near the base of the doorknob or by unscrewing it. Grab a ruler or tape measurer and find the distance from the center of the hole where the knob was and the edge of the door frame. Pry off the inside deadbolt cover using a small flat blade screwdriver. Once the knob is removed you ll have to use a flathead screwdriver or other object to pry the faceplate from the door.
