Depending on the door handle design the faceplate may be able to slide completely off.

If your door has no visible screws check the neck of the knob. Unfortunately with a plethora of doorknobs available on the market you may not even know what kind you have. Look for a recessed slot in the shaft of the handle. You rightfully infer it will be easy enough simply take out a few screws and take the knob right off.

If the knob has a recessed setscrew turn the setscrew counterclockwise with a correctly sized. You will notice that the screws for the interior knob are most likely hidden beneath the plate cover. Next find a small slot on the edge of the trim piece. Remove a recessed screw.

Locate the hole underneath the doorknob shaft. If not rotate the faceplate until the underlying screws are accessible and use a phillips head screwdriver to remove them. Loosening recessed fasteners 1.
